'CANTARE AMANTIS EST'
START THE WEEK WITH SACRED SONG
The Hampstead Collective reinvigorates the existing tradition of Song recitals at Hampstead Parish Church. The recital format is particularly well suited to the current climate, given that in almost every case, only two performers are required – a real economy of means in extracting and distilling the essence of collaborate music-making. This series is a lovely illustration of the individual as part of a whole, the way in which there can be an ebb and flow of prominence within the Collective from week to week, and a chance for everybody’s musical voice to be heard, perhaps sometimes in an unexpected light. The congregation has seen different sides of various members of the choir during lockdown, and we’d like to explore this further: giving each person a platform to ‘take a turn’, to set out their stall, to allow our varying musical personalities to manifest themselves, and in so doing, further cultivate relationships within the church community and beyond.
